Why face search can miss a photo and how to retry

Fix an empty face-search result by checking the event, processing status, selfie quality, and difficult angles before contacting support.

In this guide
  1. Check the event before the selfie
  2. Improve the reference image
  3. Understand difficult event frames
  4. Give support useful context
  5. Retry checklist

Face search can miss a real photograph when the reference selfie and event image look too different, the face is small or blocked, the event is still processing, or the photograph is not in the selected gallery. Retry methodically: confirm the event, improve one reference image, and wait for the stated processing window before contacting support.

Use this guide to troubleshoot the search itself before sending a support request.

Check the event before the selfie

Make sure you opened the correct date, race, wedding, or conference. Similar event names and separate days can lead to an empty search that no selfie can fix. Check whether the organizer says indexing is complete.

If photographs are uploaded in waves, a result may appear later without any change to the search.

Improve the reference image

Use a current, front-facing image with even light. Remove sunglasses, hats casting deep shadows, masks, and beauty filters. Use only one person. Keep enough resolution for the face to be clear.

Then retry once. Repeatedly submitting poor variations makes support harder and does not address the likely cause.

Understand difficult event frames

A match is harder when the event photograph shows:

  • A profile or the back of the head
  • A very small face in a wide crowd
  • Motion blur
  • Strong stage color or backlight
  • Hair, hands, helmet, glasses, or another person blocking the face
  • A large age difference from the reference
  • Only part of the face at the edge of the frame

For races, continue with time, location, bib, and clothing filters. For weddings, browse the section of the day where you were present.

Give support useful context

In an Event Face Finder search flow, guests can retry within one event. If support is needed, send the event name, approximate time, clothing, and likely camera location through the intended channel.

Retry checklist

  1. Correct event and date
  2. Processing status complete
  3. One clear, current face
  4. Even light and no filter
  5. One controlled retry
  6. Manual filters checked
  7. Final upload date passed
  8. Precise support request sent

If one careful retry still fails after the final upload, send support the event, time, clothing, and likely camera location instead of more selfies.
